Product Description

Bakuchiol is a monoterpenoid isolated from the leguminous plant Fructus Psoraleae, which is light yellow aromatic liquid.

It has a wide range of pharmacological activities, such as antibacterial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and phytoestrogen-like effect, which has been applied to the fields of medicine.
In 2010, Ohno et al. found that bakuchiol had a potential inhibitory effect on the formation of melanin in B16 mouse melanoma cells induced by α-melanotropin without cytotoxicity, which means that bakuchiol may become a kind of effective skin lightener.

1. Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
An often-cited study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science in 2014 evaluated the skin activity of bakuchiol versus retinol. The researchers found that although bakuchiol shares no structural similarity with retinoids, it still has similar functions, especially in terms of its gene expression profile.

The results of the study showed that after 12 weeks of twice-daily Bakuchiol facials, participants experienced significant improvements in lines and wrinkles, and an overall reduction in skin elasticity, firmness, and photo-damage. Positive results are comparable to retinol facial application.

2. Enhances skin elasticity and firmness
Several studies have shown that bakuchiol can help improve skin elasticity and firmness. A clinical study found that a nighttime facial serum made with bakuchiol, melatonin, and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (a derivative of vitamin C) enhanced skin firmness after 12 weeks.

3. Stimulate collagen
Studies have shown that bakuchiol serum is involved in the upregulation of collagen types I and IV in DNA and stimulates collagen type III. This means that the compound acts like retinol, boosting collagen production and preventing collagen loss.
Since collagen is a protein that helps form skin and connective tissue throughout the body, increasing collagen production supports healthy aging and reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.

4. Soothes rough and damaged skin
Bakuchiol has nourishing, anti-inflammatory properties, so it is often used to smooth rough, dry, and damaged skin. It has hydrating properties, including squalane, an antioxidant high in fatty acids that supports skin health.
Studies have shown that plant-derived squalane acts as a quencher for singlet oxygen, protecting the skin surface from UV and other sources of ionizing radiation. Its emollient and moisturizing properties soothe inflamed, damaged skin, and relieve skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

5. Fight against acne
Another benefit of bakuchiol for the skin comes from its antibacterial properties, which fight acne. A study published in "Clinical, Cosmetic, and Research Dermatology" found that a complex containing quinolone, ginkgo biloba, and mannitol enhanced the efficacy of adapalene, a vitamin A derivative, in treating acne.
One preliminary study stated that bakuchiol reduced acne by about 57%, while salicylic acid only reduced acne by 48%. When the two ingredients are used together, they can reduce acne damage and inflammation by up to 70%.

6. Improve pigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is the discoloration or darkening of the skin. It can cause dark spots or streaks on the surface of the skin and can occur after spending too much time in the sun or after an acne breakout.
Recent research has found that popping phenol products improve hyperpigmentation and photoaging and may have a better safety profile than retinoids.

7. Antioxidants
A recent study published in "Pharmacological Research" highlights that bakuchiol is a newly discovered "fighter against organ damage." This is due to the compound's antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and estrogen-like effects.
According to researchers, Backuchiol has protective effects on the heart, liver, skin, and other organs. It inhibits liver fibrosis, inhibits cancer cells (including those in the stomach, breast, and skin), lowers blood sugar and triglycerides, prevents bone loss, and delays osteoporosis.
